Super Dig Day at Lower Juniper

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, California State Parks, in partnership with Mount Diablo Trails Alliance as a promotional and educational supporter, hosted an important Dig Day on Lower Juniper Trail at Mount Diablo State Park. Despite cold, mist, fog and winds, 70 volunteers, including 30 Minors, helped maintain and enhance this beautiful trail in ONE day.

0.9 miles of trail were maintained and prepared for change-in-use to multi-use bike friendly, in accordance to the 2016 Road and Trail Management Plan (RTMP) for Mount Diablo State Park and California DPR Trails Handbook standards and best practices.

Special gratitude is owed to California State Parks leadership for their support and trust of these important Dig Days. We also are grateful for SRV MTB Team’s continuing support as an anchor partner, providing more than 30 volunteers at Lower Juniper Trail. These state agency and community-based service levels are prime examples of why our Shared Stewardship model exists.

During the Community Celebration, which included free raffle prizes for Minors, there were two (2) important guest speakers. Steve Smith, Board President of Mount Diablo Interpretative Association (MDIA) reinforced the importance of volunteers supporting the mission of California State Parks and highlighted MDIA’s mission as it celebrates 50 years as a major State Park stakeholder. MDIA is raising funds for an Education Center at Mitchell Canyon. Please consider supporting this important initiative:

Through a blend of advocacy, lobbying, and political work, CAMTB Coalition focuses on the expansion of bike-friendly trails, equitable trails access, environmental stewardship, and inclusive community building.
