Secret Trail - Grateful Day

On December 3, 2023, California State Parks, in partnership with Mount Diablo Trails Alliance as a promotional supporter, organized 37 volunteers of all ages and trail user interests to participate in an important Dig Day on lower Secret Trail in Mount Diablo State Park.

The volunteers finished a major water control, flood abatement and trail tread repair project. It was the first major repair or maintenance project in more than 20 years on this glorious trail, which affords wonderful vistas of the Castle Rock crags.

The ambitious project was completed in one day, thanks to the dedication and teamwork of all volunteers, including more than 20 Coaches/Teens from the SRV MTB Team; they are such a class act. So much gratitude for them and all of the volunteers’ contributions, especially given the project was completed ahead of plan and the results are built-to-last.

At the lunch break, California State Parks announced that Mount Diablo Trails Alliance, along with other park stakeholders, will help implement the trail-related recommendations in the Approved 2016 RTMP, beginning in Spring 2024. That policy change is inspirational, and it is a direct result of the efforts of countless stakeholder organizations and volunteers over the years.

The multi-year, phased implementation of the 2016 RTMP will increase safety, ecological preservation and equitable trails access as relates to Mount Diablo State Park’s backcountry trails system. Join us in Spring 2024 when the work begins.
