Seasonal Restrictions to Protect Peregrine Falcon Nesting

California State Parks will be enforcing seasonal restrictions in two (2) areas of Mount Diablo State Park to protect Peregrine Falcon nesting.

Please do not enter the area closures from February 1 through July 31.

Area 1 and Area 2 Closures
Area 1 includes Castle Rock Trail near Falcon Road and also Diablo Foothills Regional Park trails that start in Pine Canyon.

Area 2 closure zone includes all trails, rocks, and utility roads north of Black Hawk Ridge Road and south of Knobcone Point Road. Area 2 includes a popular, unsanctioned trail used frequently by mountain bikers, as well as climbers and hikers.

Abide. It Will Make a Difference
The Area 1 and Area 2 closures are critical to the nesting success of peregrine falcons, a protected species. Peregrines are highly sensitive to human activities and perceived threats.

To protect both the peregrine falcons nesting period and policy-based, bike-friendly trail access gains planned elsewhere in the State Park, please abide by the temporary closures.

Thanks for Your Cooperation.
